Dr. Mellow and The Mojos featuring Dave Keeley is one of the most popular Blues and R&B bands in the Northeast Washington region entertaining audiences with authentic Chicago, Delta and Texas Blues.

The powerful voice of Dave Keeley combines with an all-star group of veteran musicians to produce live performances highlighting the music of great bluesmen such as Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Howlin Wolf, Stevie Ray Vaughan and more.

"Sugarcane" Collins

All the way from Cape York in the hot and humid tropical far north of Australia, where the rainforest meets the reef and where there are only two seasons, wet and dry, comes Sugarcane Collins. With fire and skill and passion and commitment, Sugarcane plays guitar and sings with the deep heart of a bluesman. Sugarcane Collins is a one of a kind singer-songwriter-guitarist. Inspired by the slashing delta blues of Charley Patton and Son House, the sparkling ragtime of Blind Blake and the powerful songster traditions of Leadbelly,

Sugarcane sings passionately with a voice that is big and soulful, writes songs that are potent and rich with imagery and attacks the guitar with a driving rhythmic swing. He cut his blues teeth in rough canefield pubs and the dangerous waterfront bars of Cairns’ famed and feared but now gone Barbary Coast and his 25 year performing career in far north Queensland is the stuff of local legend.

Sugarcane’s musical perspective has broadened with every album and his first two CD’s were rewarded with outstanding critical acclaim and an impressive collection of awards.

“Otherworldly”, “scorching”, “polyrhythmic” and “chilling” have all been used to describe Eddie Turner’s guitar playing. His ethereal style is an amalgam of the Afro-Cuban rhythms of his heritage and the music that influenced him as a teenager: Chicago blues, jazz, r&b and psychedelic rock. The Cuban-born singer/guitarist cut his teeth in several rock bands contributing what Slate magazine describes as “spacey-yet-resounding solos.”

More inspired by music than by academia, Turner immersed himself in the local scene, and stints with some notable acts ensued. He played in the region’s first punk/r&b band The Immortal Nightflames, then with Grammy nominees Tracy Nelson, Mother Earth, and the 4-nikators, a group which has become legendary for its unique mix of soul, Motown, and rock. Turner got the chance to grab at the brass ring when Colorado compadre Tommy Bolin left his band Zephyr to form The James Gang and Deep Purple. He eagerly joined the hard rock, psychedelic, blues band as a guitarist, singer and songwriter. But, tragedy struck with the sudden death of Zephyr lead singer Candy Givens. Deeply shaken, Eddie decided to “grow up” by taking a hiatus from performing music to become a realtor in Denver. Today, Turner evolves as an artist with his first solo effort

Randy Oxford Band

Once again for 2007, The Rock Cut Blues Festival proudly welcomes back Randy and his band for festival.

When one thinks of award-winning instrumentalists in the rhythm-and-blues realm, the trombone is definitely not the first instrument that comes to mind. That makes Randy Oxford the proverbial "big frog" in the very small pond of blues-based trombonists, having chalked up seventeen awards from the Washington Blues Society in various categories over the course of his career.
